Clean Grid Alliance Welcomes Former Iowa Legislator to Advance Clean Energy in the Midwest
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SAINT PAUL, MINN. (July 15, 2024) -- Today, Clean Grid Alliance (CGA) announced that former Iowa State Senator Waylon Brown (R-District 30) will join the team as Regional Policy Manager. Brown will collaborate with state legislative and executive branch leadership, utility commissions, trade associations, clean energy developers, and regional grid operators to advance policies. Priorities include improvements to transmission infrastructure, streamlined siting and permitting processes, and increased large scale power generation throughout CGA's footprint.
Brown served in the Iowa Senate from 2017 to July 2024, most recently leading the highly influential Senate Commerce Committee that oversees energy policy. He helped lead the Iowa legislature in enacting monumental property tax reform efforts and eliminating regulations that prevented people from entering the workforce. Brown is a farmer, small businessman, and has served in various leadership roles in his community, including Vice President of Mitchell County Farm Bureau.
"I am proud of the work I've accomplished for the people of Iowa, and I am thrilled to continue serving communities across the Midwest in this new role with CGA," said Brown. "In order for rural communities to flourish, we must address the issue of grid stability and energy independence. CGA is known for being thoughtful and effective, and I look forward to joining the team."
"CGA is advancing efforts that strengthen our region's transmission grid and make clean energy a reality in more communities," said Beth Soholt, CGA Executive Director. "Waylon's experience and dedication to clean energy development and grid sustainability will be a tremendous asset to our team of dedicated leaders as we work toward more clean-powered economies."
"Waylon understands what it takes to get things done. He understands the positive benefits clean energy delivers to rural communities, and he's a respected, effective leader," said Jeff Danielson, CGA Vice President of Advocacy. "I'm grateful to have Waylon join the team as we advance policies that increase homegrown energy, strengthen the economy, and support rural communities throughout the Midwest."
CGA works across the Midwest, focused on a clean, affordable and reliable grid through advocacy, partnership, and education. The Alliance works with regional partners and renewable developers, focusing on wind energy, solar energy, transmission, and energy storage technology.
