Waylon Brown

Regional Policy Manager

Waylon Brown joined CGA in July 2024 as a Regional Policy Manager. In this role, he leads collaboration with state legislative and executive branch leadership, utility commissions, trade associations, regional grid operators and CGA members to advance policies that increase homegrown energy, strengthen the economy, and support rural communities across the Midwest.

Prior to joining CGA, Brown spent seven years serving in the State Senate where he led the highly influential Senate Commerce Committee, which oversees energy policy. He also served as Majority Whip, Transportation Chair, and Administrative Rules Review Committee Chair.

Waylon is a 4th generation family farmer and has owned a construction company for more than 20 years. He has served in a variety of leadership roles in his community, including Vice President of the Mitchell County Farm Bureau, and County Planning and Zoning for the city of St. Ansgar where he also served on the volunteer rescue squad as an EMT. Waylon brings a wealth of knowledge from the business and agricultural sector. Combined with his experience developing policies and knowledge of the legislative process, he brings valuable insight in promoting sustainable renewable energy solutions.

Waylon is a graduate of Riverland Community College with a degree in Construction Management. He resides in Osage with his wife Julie and their twins, Reece and Elyse. In his free time, Waylon enjoys Major League Baseball, riding motorcycles, finding ice cream shops, and woodworking.
