JEFFERSON CITY, MO – The Missouri Public Service Commission ("PSC") approved much-needed transmission lines that will strengthen Missouri's electric grid and bring billions of dollars in economic benefits to the state over the next twenty years. Clean Grid Alliance and Renew Missouri intervened at the PSC in support of the project and celebrate the Commission's approval.

The lines are part of a larger program called the Northern Missouri Grid Transformation Program – a collaboration between Ameren Transmission Company of Illinois (ATXI), Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission (MJMEUC), and Ameren Missouri that will enhance system resilience and enable access to low-cost clean energy sources. The newly approved program is expected to bring $3.3 billion in benefits to Missouri over the next 20 years, and will bring energy cost savings, increased reliability, and grid resilience to the state.

Yesterday's approval includes the Fairport-Denny-Iowa/Missouri Border Project (FDIM) and the Maywood-Mississippi River Crossing (MMRX) Project, which will cross Worth, Gentry, DeKalb, and Marion counties. The two projects include approximately 53 miles of new transmission lines and a new substation.

"This is a significant victory for Missourians and for the Midwest's energy future," said Elizabeth Wheeler, Senior Counsel and Director of Regulatory Activity at Clean Grid Alliance. "A stronger, upgraded grid means affordable, dependable power for families and businesses in Missouri and beyond."

James Owen, Executive Director of Renew Missouri, also lauded the PSC decision. "Renew Missouri is pleased regulators saw the importance of this project and what it means not only for Missouri ratepayers but to the needs of reliable delivery of electricity for the region. We look forward to how this project can tap into new clean energy resources."

The program is a part of a portfolio of projects approved by the Midcontinent Independent System Operator in July, 2022. The portfolio, named the Long-Range Transmission Plan (LRTP) Tranche 1, consists of eighteen projects that span the Upper Midwest and will provide $37 billion in regional economic benefits. This is the eleventh project to be approved of the eighteen projects in the Tranche 1 portfolio.
